Early Influences on WritingThe Fianna Chronicles
Stories have always lived at the edges of my world, whispering from the pages of old myths, the worn spines of fantasy novels, and the deep well of history itself. The Fianna Chronicles was not born from a single inspiration, but rather from a weaving of many voices—ancient, literary, and deeply personal.
Myth & Folklore: The Call of the Ancients
From an early age, I was drawn to Celtic mythology—its sense of the wild and sacred intertwined, its warriors and poets, and the way it tells of a world where the veil between the seen and unseen is ever-thin. The Fianna of Irish legend fascinated me: a band of warriors bound not just by strength, but by wisdom, artistry, and a deep connection to the land. The tales of Fionn mac Cumhaill, of oaths and betrayals, of honor lost and reclaimed, planted the first seeds of The Fianna Chronicles.
Beyond the Celts, I found echoes of this mythic tradition in the Arthurian legends, in the Norse sagas, and in the oral histories of warrior societies across time. Each carried the theme of legacy, of the burden and gift of being chosen, and of how the past never truly leaves us—it lingers in the bones of the land and the hearts of those who dare to listen.
The Fantasy Canon: Worlds That Called Me In
I owe much to the great fantasists who built doorways to other realms—authors who taught me that fantasy is not just escapism, but a way to explore truth through legend. J.R.R. Tolkien, with his deep lore and languages, showed me the power of worldbuilding. Guy Gavriel Kay wove history and poetry into his storytelling, something I sought to emulate. Patrick Rothfuss proved that fantasy could be lyrical, that words themselves could be magic. And from Samantha Shannon and Juliet Marillier, I learned the art of balancing mythic weight with human fragility.
The Echo of History: A World That Remembers
History has always been a second language to me. The rise and fall of civilizations, the way cultures preserve their truths in song and stone—these ideas shaped The Fianna Chronicles. I studied the rites of ancient warrior societies, the mysticism of druidic traditions, and the fragility of oral history when faced with conquest and time. The world of Mórradún is built upon these bones, a place where history is not just a backdrop, but an active force.
Personal Threads: The Stories We Carry
There is another influence, more personal, woven into the fabric of this book—the idea that stories are inheritance. I come from a family of storytellers, of people who hold onto old tales and pass them down like heirlooms. I have always believed that the act of remembering is itself a kind of magic. The Fianna Chronicles is, in part, my own way of carrying that tradition forward—of taking something old and making it breathe anew.
Conclusion: A Tapestry of Many Threads
The Fianna of legend. The great worlds of fantasy. The weight of history. The voices of those who came before me. The Fianna Chronicles is a story shaped by all these things—a tale where myth and memory collide, and where those who listen closely may just hear the echoes of an old song rising once more
